Matthew Adomeit
Bassist, mandolinist, writer, and educator

About
Matt Adomeit is an American bassist, mandolinist, composer, and educator based in Berlin, Germany. A graduate of Oberlin Conservatory and Amsterdam Conservatory, Matt’s musical upbringing weaves together influences of jazz, American folk, Irish trad, and classical music. Matt has earned a reputation as a versatile and steadfast presence on the bandstand, and his playing reflects a constant search for beauty and momentum.
As a bassist, Matt’s playing is rooted equally in the jazz tradition and in his years of playing classical and folk music with the bow. The seeming conflict between the angular propulsion of jazz and Matt’s lyrical sensibilities with the bow combine to form a unique voice on the instrument, unexpectedly resolving into a harmonic whole. A third element in the mix is Matt’s mandolin playing, which brings a lilting intensity to his extensive repertoire of fiddle music from Ireland and America.
In addition to co-leading the acoustic string trio Steel Sheep, Matt has toured and performed with numerous ensembles including the Rick Hollander Quartet, the Ed Kröger Quintet, the GANNA Ensemble, the Gerhard Ornig Trio, Native Speaker, Mn’Jam Experiment, Unity 6, and Davagariko. As a sideman, Matt has appeared on over a dozen albums and performed in over 25 countries.
